How the dollhouse wallpaper generator works
Pick a pattern, set the colors and the printed repeat, then enter the wall. The studio draws that pattern in vector shapes and downloads a PDF for US Letter or A4. The file is made in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the PDF has no watermark and no advertisement.
Two views share the same pattern. Wallpaper design shows an enlarged repeat so you can judge the motif. Print sheet shows the artwork on the page, with the margin and the printed area. Neither view is actual size on a monitor. Print at 100 percent, then measure the paper.
Choosing a wallpaper pattern
The twelve starters are original drawings, grouped as florals, leaves, a damask-inspired medallion, stripes and checks, dots and stars, and geometric repeats. A thumbnail is one tile. Selecting it loads that pattern and its starter colors. You can replace the colors afterward without changing the drawing.
The printed repeat is the size of one tile on the paper. It is not divided by the dollhouse scale. A smaller repeat reads as texture, which suits 1:24. A larger repeat reads as a printed motif, which can suit 1:6. Spacing changes the weight of the motif. Quarter-turn rotation changes stripes, chevrons, and the direction of the florals. Offset slides the pattern across the wall without resizing it.
Selecting dollhouse scale
1:12 is the usual dollhouse scale: one inch on the miniature stands for twelve inches in the reference. 1:6 is a larger miniature, often used for play scale. 1:24 is a smaller miniature, so the same real room becomes a smaller sheet of paper. Custom accepts a ratio from 1 to 48.
The scale is used only in full-size reference mode. In final miniature mode the numbers you type are already the dollhouse wall, so the scale does not divide them.
Measuring miniature walls
Measure the finished dollhouse wall, not the room you are copying, when you want the sheet to match a box you already built. Choose final miniature dimensions and enter that width and height in inches or millimeters. A wall that is 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall is entered as 4 and 3. Those numbers are the printed size.
Choose full-size reference dimensions when you are scaling a real wall. Measure the real wall and enter that size. The generator divides it once. A 96 inch wall at 1:12 becomes 8 inches on the paper. The output panel shows that miniature size. Do not divide it yourself and then choose reference mode, or the wall will be scaled twice. Switching the unit converts the numbers you already typed so the physical size stays the same.
Printing at actual size
Download the PDF and print at Actual size or 100 percent. Turn off Fit to page, Shrink to fit, and any border adjustment. The page size in the file is the paper you selected. Check a new printer with the print calibration sheet before you print a multi-page wall. If the 1 inch square on that sheet is not 1 inch, the wallpaper will be off by the same amount.
Joining multiple wallpaper sheets
A wall wider or taller than the printable area continues on the next page. The pattern phase starts at the wall, not at the corner of each sheet, so a stripe or a flower that crosses the join lines up. Overlap prints the same strip on both adjoining sheets. Match a motif in that strip, tape the sheets from the back, then trim the extra. Page numbers are in the margin when alignment guides are on. Keep the pages in that order.
Exact-size wall panels add a solid cut rectangle around the part you keep. The pattern outside that line is the overlap. A full printable pattern sheet uses a dashed trim line instead, and only when guides are on.
Cutting and applying wallpaper
Cut just inside the trim line so a white edge does not show. Dry-fit the piece before you glue it. Spread a thin, even coat, set the middle of the sheet first, and smooth toward the edges with a clean finger or a bone folder. Trim the corners after the sheet is down if the wall meets a ceiling or a baseboard. Do not soak the paper. Miniature walls cockle if the glue is wet.
Choosing suitable paper
Matte text-weight paper, about 24 lb to 32 lb, or a light inkjet sheet, glues flat and turns a corner. Glossy photo paper resists glue and shows every ridge. Cover stock is a better choice for a box than for a wall. If you also print grocery packages, the miniature food packaging generator uses the same scales and the same paper sizes.
Troubleshooting pattern alignment
If the repeat jumps at a join, print both pages again at 100 percent and compare the overlap, not the screen. The same motif should sit in the shared strip. A jump usually means one page was scaled by the printer, or the sheets were trimmed on the wrong side of the overlap. Turn alignment guides on so the trim line and the page number print. If the motif looks too large for the dollhouse, reduce the printed repeat. Changing the scale does not resize the repeat, and it does not resize a wall entered as a final miniature measurement.
More paper sizes and dollhouse pieces are listed on the dollhouse decor tools page. Pieces that are still in progress are marked Coming Soon and do not download a file.
Questions
Is this a free printable dollhouse wallpaper?
Yes. You design the pattern in the browser and download a vector PDF. There is no account, no watermark, and no advertisement in the file. Print it at 100 percent.
What is the difference between miniature dimensions and a full-size reference?
Final miniature dimensions are the dollhouse wall. They print as entered and are not divided by the scale. Full-size reference dimensions are a real wall, divided once. A 96 inch wall at 1:12 prints at 8 inches. That 8 inch result is not divided again.
How do I print the wallpaper at actual size?
In the print dialog, choose Actual size or 100 percent. Turn off Fit to page and Shrink to fit. The preview on this screen is enlarged, so measure the printed sheet, not the monitor. A calibration sheet is the check for the printer.
How do I join sheets when the wall is larger than one page?
Print every page at the same size. The pattern continues across the overlap. Match a motif in that shared strip, then trim back to the marked line. Page numbers sit in the margin when alignment guides are on. The pattern does not start over on the next sheet.
What paper should I use for miniature wallpaper?
A light text-weight or matte inkjet paper lies flat on a dollhouse wall. Cover stock resists the corners. Seal raw wood or foam board first, then use a thin glue stick or a wheat paste and smooth from the center outward.
Why does the repeat look large on my screen?
The design view is enlarged so the repeat is easy to see, and the print-sheet view fits the whole page in the panel. Neither is actual size. The output panel lists the miniature wall, the printed repeat, and the paper size in the PDF.
