Printable miniature picture mats for dollhouse frames
Create a tiny paper mat board with a window cutout for photos, illustrations and dollhouse wall art. Customize the opening, border width, mat color and trim. Download multiple accurate copies to print on US Letter or A4.
Measure the picture opening, not the outside frame
Choose a 4 × 6, 5 × 7, 8 × 10, square, or landscape preset—or enter a custom opening. Enter the real-life reference picture opening width and height. The generator divides those dimensions by 6, 12 or 24, then adds the border on all four sides at the same scale. For example, an 8 × 10 inch opening and a 2-inch mat border produces a 12 × 14 inch outer mat in real-life reference dimensions. At 1:12, the inner opening is 0.667 × 0.833 inches and the outside is 1 × 1.167 inches.
How to cut the miniature mat window
The white inner rectangle is a removable paper opening, not artwork. Print at 100%, cut the outer outline first, then carefully cut the four sides of the inner opening with a fresh craft knife and a straightedge. Work on a cutting mat, and keep fingers away from the blade. At tiny scales, thin borders may tear; choose a wider mat or 1:6 scale for your first attempt.
Choose a frame-mat design
Classic gives you an uncluttered colored border. Double-line adds a fine decorative outline inside the mat surface. Decorative corners create a subtle four-corner accent. The patterns are vector shapes, so color and dimensions stay accurate in the generated PDF.
Mount the picture behind the opening
Place a miniature photograph or printed artwork behind the cut window, then attach it around the outside with a tiny amount of adhesive. Do not glue across the opening. This tool makes a paper mat, not a structural wooden or plastic picture frame.

Picture mat FAQs
Does the opening print as a real hole?
A printer cannot cut cardstock. The PDF provides the exact white window and cut lines; you must remove the center after printing.
What does the border measurement include?
It is the border added to each of the four edges of the reference image opening, then scaled to your dollhouse size.
Should I use cardstock?
Lightweight cardstock can help the mat hold its shape. Very thick material may be hard to cut accurately at 1:24, so test first.
